I use MTH track, one inner and one outer loop. The loops connect in 3 places with back to back 72 inch switches, and one 54 inch switch on the outer loop to a yard as well as another 72 inch switch on the inner loop to another yard. My mth trains run fine on them all, though at the end of the yard track power ends, after another switch. My new Lionel pacific Chicago & Alton smoking whistle loco works fine on all but 1 inner switch to the outer loop and the 54 inch switch to the outer loop yard. when traveling below 40 the engine stops if going straight as soon as the first two wheels hit the plastic part of the switch. All sounds die and I have to push the engine forward to get it to work again. If 50, the lights on the track flash and the engine hesitates, but does keep going. At 60, the lights just quickly flash. Why does it do it on only 2 switches? How do I fix this?

Put a battery in the Lionel engine, that should help. Putting 2 switches back to back does not help either.
I had this problem and was going to run some more feed wires. Just yesterday I thoroughly cleaned the track in the bad area and put a very light coat of conductive oilon rails. Believe it or not it worked. I was shocked that it did.
I keep fresh batteries in all my Legacy engines as was stated above.

I have the problem with several TMCC and Legacy locomotives on Atlas switches with extra wiring around the switch. I still have sporadic problems. The loops are O-72 and O-54 and the problem does not differentiate between the two. I also clean my track very regularly.

Hi Jeff. Am having similar problems with my Legacy steamers too. The battery seemed to help the Mikado but our new S3 is still dropping out a lot. What kind of conductive oil are you using? I am not familiar with them. Am willing to try anything at this point!
The oil I use is called " never stall" made by Dalight Sales their phone number is 888-557-9899. Www.daylightsales.com
I really did not expect it to work. I bought it to use on rollers and contacts. My wife has a rechargeable battery powered Dyson vacumn. Kept having problems shutting off and then having to reseat battery. I put some on the battery contacts and problem solved.
I have not used it long enough to determine how often it has to be re-applied.
It's worth a shot...a little goes abling way.
Never Stall appears to be the same kind of product as DeoxIT D5, you might consider that as well, since it appears to be cheaper. I use DeoxIT D5 for conductivity issues, it's like magic.
