Hello everyone!

We will begin the process of fixing the Legacy Mogul issue soon. To date, we have received less than 10% of the production run to fix. We ask that if you have a Mogul that exhibits the jerking/stuttering issue at speed steps under 30, please call us to obtain a RA number to send it in for repair. This is a last call for this repair.

We have reached out to all Dealers and have asked them to send in their stock of Moguls as well.

Thank you!

Frankly I'm surprised by the lack of responses to this thread.  Am I the only one with the Mogul?   Maybe Lionel should contact those who registered their engines on Lionel's website.

I would imagine they did or will.  It would only make sense.  it's odd to me too that there has been little reaction to Dave's thread.  Seems a whole bunch of folks would be chiming in.  Didn't they post previously to send them in?  Dean from customer service back in May asked for them to be sent back in this thread.  He even stated then that the fall was the time frame so it looks like that was pretty accurate.

Hopefully for those who have them they'll get the word and finally have closure.  10% though is not a lot.

A good friend ours in our club passed this year in April, He sent his Mogul back for repairs in October of last year. Not sure what will happen to that one.

This is a puzzle. The Mogul threads were loud and long, and Lionel came in for a rough time. They quite properly offer to make it right, generally wihin the time frame they outlined and.....crickets.....

You don't really think they're all going to pile on and give High Praise to Lionel for saying they're finally going to start work on these, do you??

I'm sure those that are affected will roll the dice and send theirs in and hope for the best...

If you remember Dave's post from May/June time frame.  The Chinese factory is sending workers to fix these in Sept.  They need all the engines back so they can all be fixed at once.   Yes last winter it was stated don't send them in until they have a resolution.   Now they need them back so these workers are here for a reason, so to speak.

I suspect a number of folks buy these trains for display and don't read this forum.  This is perhaps one contributing cause to a low return rate for purchasers.  Then there are  folks whose loco worked fine, despite the contention by a few posters that all the locos were defective, which apparently isn't correct.

Finally, many of the posters didn't own the loco, but have a substantial commitment to whining and moaning about Lionel's products .

It's a relief to hear that the problem will be solved, albeit after a long delay, for the hundred (s) people who actually need the repair.

While I do tend to agree with a most of your points, there has been no indication the the entire run was not affected by this issue.  Personally at this point I think it's a moot point.  What is important is to get the word out.  I think too, dealers need to take some action and contact their customers who might have bought them.  It's stinks for them but will be good for business in the long run.  Time to spread the word folks!

At this time, I do not have a date when the engines will be repaired. Since September is essentially here, I would not count on them being done and shipped before October.

Any Mogul that has been through this repair process will have its packaging marked signifying that the repair was made.

"there has been no indication the the entire run was not affected by this issue."

Fair enough, but 10% is an exceptionally low rate given that these were BTO and most were purchased by dealers who had identified orders from consumers.  Doubt that 50-90% were ordered for display or "stock."As you say, a moot point.  Might as well have it fixed even if it's working now.

Dave,

When does the repair window for the Mogul close? If someone discovers a unit a year or two from now, will Lionel still honor the free repair?

BTW, Thanks for your efforts on this. It's been long hard road and Lionel took a lot of flack for this particular engine. Thanks for staying true and coming though on these!!

Good luck on the repairs and thanks again!

First I've seen this thread, don't live on the forum.  I sent mine back a couple months or so ago.  Knew of the problem when I got it, Lionel had said they would fix it, so I sat on it until I was able to get the RMA number, then I sent it in.  I'm grateful for the update from Dave.  I look forward to the day I can run her through her paces, I really liked the piece.  I would love for there to be more small scale steam with full Legacy control.

I believe there are some on this forum that live to complain.  No matter what the issue, new catalog pricing, variations from the prototypical model, Quality of manufacture and any other perceived issue whither they experience it themselves or not.  I would venture to say that at least half the complainers don’t own the product in question or ever intended to purchase it.

I own a number of items that were condemned by members of this forum ( usually the same members by the way)  that were perfect out of the box, but reading the comments on this board you would think that every item manufactured was defective.  So it doesn’t surprise me that only 10 % were returned so far, it may be that less than 20% were affected in the first place.

I run mine conventionally, and haven't noticed any issues at slow speeds with my ZW-L. Should I still have this repair done?

Personally, I would - the repair is free and if you ever decide to run command control in the future or, like Rod said, if you sell/give the engine to someone who does, they won't have to worry about any issues.

Should make no difference whether your run it in command or conventionally.  It's a mechanical issue but to be safe I find someone with TMCC and try it out.  If there's no jerk consider yourself one of the few lucky ones.

Hmm; isn’t complaining about the complainers a complaint?  😉

And to keep this topical; kudos to Lionel for making this right with the Mogul owners!

So, so painfully true.

And, on top of it, the guy (screen name begins with "L") who tries to bring a balance to the discussion is often castigated - unnecessarily & to the point of hostility - by the same group of complainers.

Thank you Dave for this information, I just called Lionel and will be getting via email my two RAs for my Everett and Lackawanna Moguls from your warranty facility shortly.

I read this thread today because I comb through this forum every two weeks or so looking just for such an update. I tried to send my engines in several months ago but at that time was not given an RA because a fix was not yet in hand, I was told. There very well could be many others out there who have not gotten this latest word.

Thank you in advance for persevering with a fix for this problem, Lionel acts in good faith and I in turn have patience.

Rick
