Hey all.

My son dropped my legacy 990 remote last night. The screen cracked. I have already called Lionel and got an RMA to have it fixed. It will be sent out today or tomorrow.

Question?  Is there a new legacy remote on the market? I have been seeing pictures of remotes with a silver Lionel logo on the throttle wheel.

Is there a difference in these remotes?

I was considering buying an expansion set since I will be at least three weeks without my cab2.

Any thoughts?

I had my LEGACY Remote go dead after 3 Years. I received an RA, sent it in, and had a new one back in less than a week.. The Remote you are talking about is a CAB1-L. it won't be out until Mid-Year.  Keep your present one!!!  If you want a backup, purchase a #993 Expansion Set. You will be a whole lot better off!!!

I don't think its any different, it appears that the knob has a silver logo but I think thats just the image being used. The recent batch of remotes was shipped some time ago and the only difference is the software version 1.4 versus 1.3.

An expansion set is one way to go you only need one base and you already have that, the expansion set base is stictly a charger. Keep in mind you'll likely have to upgare the software in the expansion set as many of these are older as they don't sell like the command set. I believe many of the expansion sets are 1.2.

I get a bit nervous with my kids holding the legacy remote with the glass screen. I'll probably be looking into the simplified Legacy Cab 1L Fred mentioned as an extra remote especially for the kids.

Gromet, good move on the 993. Worth having two controls. Got the ZW-L...awesome. Please keep us informed what you think of it and how it fits into your current setup. I do not need one but I have a feeling I will be getting one...too cool to pass up.
