I have a LEGACY Scale GP35 Diesel 6-38866 that the smoke switch will not turn off the smoke function. The smoke unit works really great via the Cab 2. I switched to "No Smoke" but the smoke unit still functions through the remote. I haven't removed the shell to checked the switch leads or switch.

I only have experience with MTH, but with those locomotives, I know that the smoke switch only works if you are running in conventional mode. The switch is off but the DCS control can still turn it on and off. My suspicion would be that lionel is the same way. Perhaps someone else could confirm.
I have the Santa Fe version 38975 and it works the same way. I just tried it with Legacy and the switch in the engine had no effect. I don’t use smoke much but I was surprised by this.
The smoke switch on a Lionel locomotive should really disable the smoke in either command or conventional operation.

I guess I need to remove the shell and check for a bad switch or if a wire has become disconnected. I normally leave my smoke switches off until needed.
Normally, it's when the switch is closed you get smoke, so if a wire was loose, you should get no smoke.

I agree, I didn't think of that. Do you have any suggestions on what to try? I tried a reset and that didn't help.
Time to look at the switch I suspect.

Agreed. I am almost positive it worked at one point. I fully expected the switch to work today when I tested it, but no.
