Just now received a Legacy So Pac 2-6-6-2, SKU-85183, that I purchased from a reputable train store. The engine was obviously not new; I have unpacked many Lionel engines in my 80+ years and this one was  not new but appeared to have had very little use.

After oiling the locations recommended in manual, It was placed on track and started to test the various functions. Smoke, whistle, bell all worked. I addressed it and all seemed normal until I tried to get it to move; at that time, the cab light started to blink. I watched it blink about 30 times. I then performed an engine reset with the same results.

I tried the Cab-1 and 2 and conventional modes with the same result.

I seem to remember when the TMCC first came out there was a lengthily reset procedure that I can no longer remember; I doubt that it would apply now.

If anyone has any suggestions short of the obvious return, I would appreciate them.

It just occurred to me that the other Legacy eng that I have will move when pushed without power; wheels will move fairly easily. This one does not.

Thats unfortunate. Theres a dealer thats always pushing special sales around here. I had a similar experience from them years ago. I returned  it and ever purchased from them again

If its one blink continuously, its likely a "motor driver stall" code.  This can be caused by something as simple as dirty track or more serious like something binding in the drive train. ( other codes will blink in a pattern of 2 or 3 blinks in between pauses.)

There could be something binding. If your comfortable doing so. I would remove the shell and try to turn the flywheel and check the linkage going to the front set of drivers.

Given that it shows obvious use. I would at least contact the dealer and let them know your unhappy.

Thank you for your advice. I have purchased other engines from this dealer without any issues and have contacted him about this issue and he is sending a label to return the engine; can't ask for more than that.

I would not be afraid to open anything that is not new and have done so many times in the past. However, in this case, I prefer to let them take care of problem. The engine could be brand new; maybe I've become paranoid from buying items from the "big river".

Regards
