Legacy steam engine tender swaping?

In your message you should give the Lionel equipements numbers 6-....  and mention witch equipements you want to swap with the others.

As long as the IR is on the same side of the draw bar any tender will work with any legacy locomotive.  Some of the earlier legacy locos had the IR on the bottom of the draw bar and the newer ones have it on the top.  

And the good news is, you won't break anything if you connect incompatible units, because the only link is the IR on the drawbar!   The worst that can happen is it just doesn't work.

I do it all the time.  Not sure if it's literally every Legacy loco-tender combo can be switched, but I haven't found a combo that does not work among recent locos.  I think I've done it with all of my Legacy locos made in the last three years.  In some cases the switch is nearly permanent: I always run my Legacy Mallet with a tender from another loco - one large enough to look good with it.

Any wireless tether locomotive from Lionel will either work or not when swapped with another tender, but being wireless, you won't damage anything trying.

That is NOT the case for any wired tender, either Lionel or MTH!
