I have had a frustrating evening with the Lionel Legacy System to program my Long island legacy H16-44. First off I was running this engine through MTH DCS with the Legacy Powermaster 6-37146 connected to DCS no problems.

Got Legacy Control system today  programmed my Burlington GP35 no problem. Went to program the Long Island H16-44 and got everything except no horn, no bell, no crew talk. Runs forward reverse, stops, lights work, smoke works. It is probably  something small that I am missing. The instruction book is not much for trouble shooting.  I used the orange module that came with engine. The  remote reads the engine H16-44  #1509 diesel, Legacy, Legacy sound, but no horn, bell, crew talk.

Just can't get it, so advice would be nice and I will be at it tomorrow. Happy Halloween good night.

Mike

TMCC Versions have RS / SIGNAL SNDS switches.  In either position the Horn / Bell should work.  It only shuts off the prime mover sounds in the Signal Sounds position.  With no sounds there is another issue we need to locate.

Well that cleared that up... Can you look at re-seating the sound board? Next would be the chip itself...

Ok total frustration with this and legacy.  My Burlington GP35 was run with DCS with the Legacy powermaster no problems. Got the Legacy Control system programmed the GP35 no problem everything works great. Next my Long Island H16-44 no problems with DCS go to program it on the Legacy control system problems.  The engine is in the remote. smoke works, the cab light goes on but, when I run it, it  goes out.  It is running like a conventional engine.  No sound, no horn, no bell, no rev up or down. Tried to reset it like STPaul stated, nothing. I am amazed how great it was working on DCS then on Legacy where it is supposed to be nothing.

Think that is working correctly, like turning the dome light off in car. If you unplug the legacy base from the wall and track, does the sound work when operated in conventional mode?

I assume so since he said he was running it through a Legacy power master.  But that begs the question, why did he have a Legacy Powermaster without the Legacy system?  At least that's what I got out of his original post.

Sorry engine manual...

From the on-line manual for the locomotive 6-38436 page 27

If your locomotive is unresponsive to your commands in the Command Control environment, we recommend that you follow this procedure to reset your locomotive. All factory default settings will be restored when you reprogram the locomotive.
1. Slide the program run switch to the PGM position.
2. Plug in and connect your LEGACY Base or TMCC Command Base.
3. Place your locomotive on the track, then power up the track.
4. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID#.
5. Press SET.
6. Turn off track power and wait ten seconds.
7. Slide the program run switch back to the RUN position.
At this point, your locomotive has been reset. Restore power to the track and operate the locomotive as usual. Be sure to use the ID# entered in Step 4.

But what was he using for a command base?  He said he just got the Legacy System after he was running the DCS and Powermaster setup.  Unless I'm missing something.

Assumed  he had the TMCC/Legacy stuff but wanted to run things thru the DCS system. A few of my friends who have TMCC equipment only run it thru their DCS hand held with their MTH engines. Still doesn't explain the sudden loss of sound!

My guess is it's using the MTH adapter cable which is command mode operation, just using the DCS TMCC instructions..

Running Legacy trains through DCS requires The legacy power master. You don't get all the legacy commands but you get everything else (start up crew talk, shout down crew talk horn worked smoke worked lights worked ).  It worked so I got the Legacy 990 to control all my legacy trains.  My GP-35 Burlington works perfectly on Legacy system the Long Island doesn't not for some reason. I tried resetting it like Martye said it did not work.

Running a Legacy engine through DCS in command mode requires a command base, period.  Either TMCC or Legacy.  A Legacy Powermaster wouldn't know what to do without a Legacy Base communicating with it.  Are you sure you have a Legacy Powermaster and not a TMCC1 Base?

sorry my bust I have the legacy command base Base L 6-37156 hooked up to my dcs that ran my legacy trains through dcs. regardless my Legacy Control engine is not working on my Legacy control system 990.

the Burlington is running fine no issues

What is the unique ID you gave it when you did the PGM/RUN procedure of the engines.  It should be a number between 1and 98.  I believe you gave us the road numbers.

Typically each engine has a unique ID that you program. Does each engine have a unique ENG ID?  If so what are they?  The procedure is on page 10 of each engine manual.

are you using same ID # as the one on DCS is?

address the engine push startup key now push the big R button on cab-2 remote  you should see headlight blink and whistle sound acknowledging the reset, a lot of times this will restore sounds to offending engine.

Tried it nothing happened no blinking light no whistle

if you did what I said and no whistle sounds nor a blinking headlight the engine is not responding because the engines ID # is not being recognized by the legacy command system and the cab-2 remote. try doing what Marty E said and do a total reset of engine and use a different ID# not the one used for dcs and see if it responds to the legacy/cab-2 commands.

If the "sounds working" case was when you were running the locomotive in conventional mode (via the legacy power master), and then connecting the Legacy command base resulted in "sounds not working," I have a possible explanation. Perhaps the last time this locomotive was run under command control, the master volume got turned all the way off. In conventional, a Legacy locomotive will ignore the stored volume and you can hear the sounds. But when the command signal is present, it will honor the stored master volume, which in this case, could be set to minimum. Following the procedure in the manual, try turning up the master volume using the legacy remote.

Any update.

just frustration, I tried engine 99 that did not work.  I was able to put a tmcc union pacific speeder on no problem.  I even put a battery in the engine nothing. I can run the engine like a conventional engine that is it.  The cab light in the engine comes on and as I start to roll the engine out the cab light goes off. It goes forward and reverse by using the remote button, the smoke unit works through the remote but nothing else works. I am running out of ideas and patience lol
