I am adding a MTH TIU to my Lionel Legacy system.  I currently have a 990 Legacy base and a Lionel LCS Wifi unit plugged into the serial port on the Legacy base.  In order to operate the Legacy with the TIU, I have to connect the TIU with the Legacy base using a cable that plugs into the serial port on the Legacy base.  Here is my problem...  There is only one serial port on the Legacy base, and now I have two plugs that need to plug into the one series port.  Here is my question.  To plug both the TIU and the Wifi into the Legacy base, can I just use a Serial Y splitter cable like this? Y Serial Splitter  Or alternatively, do I need to purchase a Lionel SER2 to utilize both the the Lionel LCS Wifi and the TIU through the Legacy base?

Thanks for your help on this...

Thanks for the input.  On an offshoot follow up question.  Do you need the SER2 when you are simply wiring the Legacy to the TIU.  The MTH wiring diagram shows the TIU (using an MTH serial plug) wired to an SER2 and then to the Legacy base.  here is the diagram from MTH: MTH Legacy Integration diagram.  That said, the MTH serial plug can be plugged in directly from the TIU to the command base.  The plugs fit.  I do not know if it will operate though.  Will it operate?  Then as a follow up on that.  If I am following the diagram per MTH above, and I also want to add the Lionel LCS Wifi, do I need two SER2s to add both the legacy base and the LCS wifi to be used with the DCS TIU.

Thanks again for your anticipated help.
