Does anyone know of any recent (TMCC,PS2 or 3,or Legacy) Lehigh Valley Steamers? I've looked and bid on a few of the Weaver John Wilkes of course but to no avail. I'm trying to find out what's "out there" in order to keep a watchful eye.
The Weaver John Wilkes is the only Brass scale one that comes to mind based off of a true Lehigh Valley Prototype. Hoping Sunset will one day make a Lehigh Valley 4-8-4.
Lionel's TMCC LV camelback is 6-38040. Sadly it's prototype is the Jersey Central's camelback. I have the Jersey Central version and it is a wonderful runner. I have found the same situation you are in. I have a strong family connection with the LV and besides the John Wilkes and the Lionel camelback I have found no modern LV steamers. There are a number of LV diesels however.
I use a 736 Berkshire with unmarked 1993 tender which can be decaled to suit. Good pulling 2-8-4, smaller than scale, larger than 027. Close enough to John Wilkes in tha t swell photo for me. Correst headlight position and tender style even!
