Amazing thread, and very interesting pictures to. Happy Railroading Everyone
Larry, I love your layout and your approach to layout building: Richly and skillfully landscaped, but in a way that fully-embraces the "toyness" of the trains and accessories. IMO, this is what 3-rail is all about!
@c.sam posted:The last post prior to Paul bringing it back is Jan 2018 - over 6 years now. Sad to see the many familiar avatars of some who have passed like Dewey and 'Big Boy 4005' with his huge fantastic layout left prematurely under construction. But quite a few others seemed to have 'dropped off' and are gone, hopefully not due to failing health or worse. Thanks to all of your folks for some beautiful work and wonderful memories!
I second Sam's sentiment. When I resurrected this thread, I did not initially notice that Elliot had also passed away. We've lost some greats, and it's sad.
Regarding Elliot's curved corners, I've noted that is the preferred method by HO scalers as well as some O-scalers. And regarding modular layouts, the ones I've seen have been rectangular for obvious reasons. And than I had a brainstorm: for modular layouts and/or others that are rectangular, wouldn't it be neat if a giant factory or facility of some kind dominated the corner(s) whereby the tracks disappeared under the facility or through it. If done on a massive scale, the facility would take the viewers' attention.
Thanks for the reminder Paul as I couldn't remember Elliot's real name. :-) I wonder what eventually happened to the layout?
