Not sure if this is the proper forum to bring this up but I will ask.  I am making a diorama of a lone caboose on a section of track (it will serve as the base of a desk lamp I am making).  I would like to put an end of track bumper on the track.  I like the lionel lighted bumpers but for accuracy sake, were bumpers ever lighted?  I'd like to be as accurate as possible.  I looked online at real world bumpers and I found no pictures from the 60's-70's with lights.  Please let me know.  Thanks!

I have only seen lighted bumpers in the modeling world.  In the real world they are steel, concrete, earthen embankments or just a couple of ties.  Even in busy railroad places like, NY Penn station, Grand Central or the NYC subway there are no lights on the bumper.  Most times there is a signal just before the bumper showing red.

Every brand has a bumper of some sort.  I like the look of the Lionel 6-12717 Hayes bumper.

If you Google “railroad track bumper” you can see all sorts of real and model bumpers.

Have fun.
