Lionchief berkshire died

The correct PCB for that engine is the 691ENGM506.  Call them up to get one.  Are you SURE it's the PCB?  Does the motor turn by hand?

Pretty sure,  the motor does turn. Cannot connect either with the Lionchief remote or via Bluetooth.

Just out of curiosity, what is the transformer you are using? Since you bought the engine separately from a set, you are using a different power source that what was included.

It originally ran ok on a 72 watt ac, it stopped on that same transformer

I also ran it ok on an old ZW

Ebay always sides with buyer.  Return it cuz it’s not working 

Your transformers are OK. I don't trust Lionchief locos on CW80 transformers. Luck of the draw I guess. Lionel will usually exchange parts for the one you just bought.

72w what brand, type, what amp, voltamp or voltage output?

It should not exceed 18v if I'm not mistaken. 20v for sure.

A ZW at full throttle can reach 20v give or take 2v or 25v+/-2 w/whistle switch thrown.  If that's the case you could dial down the max voltage with bridge rectifiers. No thottle accidents that way.
