I 'm having trouble on a Lionel 022 switch it will derail a small switcher 624 when it goes on it.. the auxiliary metal strip seems to have a bump and makes the trucks on the engine bump up I tried to flatten with no luck so I was wondering do I need it can I just remove it thanks for the info and help daniel;

I believe the metal strip carry current. So some locomotives mat stall when they pass through the switch.

would a engine stall or just a handcar or small motorized unit..?

Those metal strips sometimes come loose. Simply open the switch up to gain access and unsolder, reposition, and solder the strip(s) back in place.

I trimmed the excess that was making the wheels ride up and making it derail .. so far so good! time will tell...
