Added a new section to layout, joined to existing layout by Lionel remote 027 (42” diameter) switch, powered by track for non-derailing. Switch goes to return loop, with insulating pins on inside rails. When track is powered, switch buzzes. Seems like z4000 is straining, but “short light” does not go on. Suggestions? JohnA

Easiest causes to check: (1) do you have insulating pins on the two interior outer rails on the turnout side? (2) do you have the switch controller wired properly. Both can cause buzzing.
Insulating pins are in inside of “outer rails “. Not using switch controller. Relying on track power to route switch. Switch does slowly move when I change polarity. Bzzzzzzzzz. Switch is NOS. Track is Gargraves. JohnA
Check very carefully that the bottom of the track is not touching the turnout rails under the insulating pins. That has happened to me before. Good luck.
Also- power to this section is “patched in” from the old section, using jumpers every 6 feet into the new (return loop) section, which has about 30 feet of track. JohnA
Brad- I did check for that- thanks. JohnA
Disconnect both tracks and see what happens. If everything is OK then it's not the switch. Then connect 1 track at a time and see when the problem starts. This will narrow down the search for the problem.

this is a reach, but here goes: I had 20 of those at one time and GAVE them away after buying K-line's and seeing how much better K-line's were. The only time that I can ever remember buzzing was when a train ran thru the switch. If I parked a train with part of it on the switch it would be non-stop buzzing and it could cause the coils to burn out.
Here's the reach: check to make sure there's no loose metalic anything on the switch, especially on the sections with the insulated rails. Also worth a try: if the switch is in the divergent path, manually change it to the straight thru path and see if the buzzing stops. Ditto for the reverse situation.
