How or what is the best way to fix this 7 conductor ribbon cable. I bought this a couple of years ago and are just getting around to putting it on my layout. Unfortunately, the cable is not usable. Is it possible to splice it and if so what are peoples recommendations? Are there any special tools or steps I need to be aware of so I don't damage any other part of the unit? See attached pictures. Thanks in advanced. Vr... Brook

Are you good with Molex-type pin extractors?
You could remove the flat cable from that connector and either clean up the cut end and get new pins, or get a new 7 conductor flat ribbon cable and replace the entire thing from controller to that connector.
I haven't checked Mouser or Digi-Key.
@gunrunnerjohn might know.
Get a soldering iron and some heat shrink tubing. Watch a few Youtube videos on soldering if needed.

What I have done is cut and splice. Insulate with heat shrink tubing. But first cut the cable so the splices are staggered about an inch apart. If this is going on a layout and the cable was cut to get it through the board, crimp spade connectors on all the wires and reconnect it with a terminal block. That way you can run the cable through the table and quickly reconnect it. Screw the terminal block to the under side of the table right next to the hole if you want to.
Well, I took that leap and did my first attempt at repairing ribbon cable and it has worked. The item I used to fix the cable is the is the low heat solder with heat shrink on either end. Worked beautifully and tested out perfect. I have seen these used in weapons and aircraft maintenance so knew they are pretty reliable. These are no where near the spec of those requirements, but I highly recommend them for ease of use and functionality for our hobby.
