I have a copy of the Lionel track plan for this layout and have never seen one built up. I was wondering if anyone else had? It's dated March 1959. I was rather surprised at the complexity and number of operating accessories for a "lowly O27" layout!

It looks like a LOT of action in a 5 x 9 space but uses the crappy 1122 switches (6 of 'em.) I already have a 4 x 24 O27 layout with many 1122's on it and you absolutely cannot back up thru the curved part of them without a derail. (Sometimes even going forward thru the curve ends up in a derail!)

Maybe I should look at re-doing this in O31 "O" trackage. It might be a fun project to involve the grandkids...

The Lionel Dealer Display Layouts were designed with exactly that in mind, i.e., to showcase many operating accessories and track side signals in small spaces (usually 4x8 or 5x9).

Here's a link to an old thread here with lots of great information and pictures on display layouts.

I'll try to post some pictures of my D-105 5x9 Dealer Display Layout later this weekend.
