Has anyone heard any update or anything as to when this catalog might actually be released?  I know it was supposed to be this summer, but I was wondering whether anyone knew anything more specific than that.  Eager to see how their NS Heritage units will compare with MTH's.

Well, mainly I was interested in how they compare in price.

But beyond that, sometimes MTH and Lionel will issue the same engine with small (or not-so-small, depneding on your point of view) differences in detail and structural elements.  Like the GE Evolution ES44AC.  The first picture is the Lionel model, the 2nd MTH.  (Or at least that's how they were labelled on eBay.)  The horn in the 2nd photo looks a bit larger.  There are what appear to be grab irons running up the leaf in the 2nd one.  You can see a bunch of other small things...variations in size and placement of screens, stuff like that.

Okay...good points... I see what you mean.  There is certainly a difference between those two when it comes to the "size and thickness" of the radiator area and the depth of the area from the dynamic breaks to the beginning of the radiator.  Not a scientific statement...but, I believe Lionel diesels always appear more "stretched" than MTH's which are more "boxy"...shorter and chunkier.

The more I stare at those two, the more I see.

Thanks!

I like both of them.  In general, I'm not that much of a stickler when it comes to "rivet counting."  There's nothing on either of these models that would keep me from buying either.  ( I do have the MTH model.)

I just want to see whether there are any huge differences between the Lionel and MTH version of the NS Heritage diesels.  And what each company is charging of course!

The MTH and Lionel GE hybrid are very close but I give the MTH unit the edge for detailing, correct horn (sound)and price. I have the MTH and a friend has the Lionel and we put them side by side and compared. Both are great looking engines and I would be proud to have either but I'm glad MTH did do it in ABS and having the engineering car was a plus. Not exactly prototypical but close enough for me.

I would get half powered and half unpowered to balance them out. And maybe two Readings and PRR birds put a small a and a b on them.
