Welp, the catalogs are here. And I gotta say that Lionel's outdone themselves for the start of this year.

For me, I definitely will get a Reading T-1. THANK YOU LIONEL, for bringing this favorite back after 27 years. Oh yeah, and the N&W 1218.

That being said, the new F40PH's, the GS-4 Daylights, new LC+ engines and sets, and smoke fluid loaders are some of my other highlights. Like I said, Lionel has so much wow for their first volume this year.

But what about you guys? What are you hyped on getting?

What a relief!!!  I'm safe from the big-ticket items this go-around... although I do hear a distant and faint voice calling "Go for a Daylight GS-4".    Will self-control win out?  Time will tell.

One thing I will say though... you REALLY need to look through ALL the catalogs to get a full perspective of the breadth of Lionel's offerings.  The RTR catalog is PACKED with lots of little jewels that have typically been part of prior years' Signature and Holiday catalogs -- especially for folks looking at traditional rolling stock.  Lionel is clearly steering its 2016 Signature Catalog toward the scale market and to folks with very, very deep pockets.  No argument there.  But just when I thought Lionel had left the traditional O Gauge market in the dust, I got the RTR catalog working after a few rough starts with the spinning color-wheel of death on my Mac desktop.  Couldn't get past the early page-spreads for the first few attempts.  But once I finally did, it was WELL worth the trouble.

For folks who may have barely skimmed the RTR catalog in prior years -- or down right never even looked at it, DON'T pass it over this year!  Lots of cool stuff sprinkled throughout the RTR and Holiday Memories catalogs.  In fact, 2016 may likely be the year I have more fun "shopping" in these two catalogs, and simply ignore the Lionel sticker-shock from big-ticket items in the Signature Catalog.  May still spend a few bucks with several "smaller" purchases when all is said and done ... but the fun-factor will be quite high.  And that's all that counts.

At least we'll feel like we're filling up the storage compartment of our SUVs, instead of spending $2K on something we can hold in one hand.    Of course, we'll still need to find SPACE for all these goodies once they make their way home with us.    That's always the never-ending challenge for everybody in this hobby... always has been... always will be.

I couldn't agree more.  The RTR catalog is a big home run.  There is a lot of cool things in this catalog.  The Phantom in form of a Batman train.  So much in this.  And the Holiday catalog is quickly becoming my favorite.  Mike Reagan's finger prints are all over these catalogs.

Back to the original question.  I can see myself in for a GG1, PFE sound cars, a couple of  sensor cars scale and traditional, and maybe, big maybe the Pennsy passenger cars (broadway Limited).  If I get the PFE cars, I would most likely sell one of the duplicates I bought for the Big Boy.

Haven't scanned all catalogs but from what I've seen.....

I like the Air and Space boxcars but not the price.

I really like the sound boxcars...I thought the sound from the Vision Reefers was the coolest thing and I'd like to have the sound boxcars. Maybe when they ship I'll see how much money I've got left....

Also really like the B&O LC+ 0-4-0 but seeing I've got 3 switchers, one of those being a B&O 0-6-0, I can pass.

Since I was a little kid, I've always admired and loved the SP 4449 Daylight and have ALWAYS wanted a model. I want one but the Legacy option is a little out of my price range and operating range! (0-42 and 0-31 curves). Maybe one day....

Lots of cool stuff, lots. Lots out of my price range as well!!

Best part for me was the cover to the main catalog with the sparking GG1. Best catalog cover I've ever seen from any manufacturer.

Yes, this catalog is one of the best yet that I've seen. It's gonna hurt... so good...

The new GG1 (I have none so this will be my first), the Allegheny (again a first for me), the 21' passenger cars for the GG1, the VL boxcar sets that I missed last year plus a new set, more 86' box cars (wish those had sound too), maybe a few more auto racks, and perhaps the LionMaster Class A to run on my inside 36" curves, and more and more. Good thing I don't have just a single road name... everything is so much colorful when mixed up!

Pete, I've had the slightly blurry problem too, but I click the page to "zoom in" and it gets much bigger/clearer. I have a fairly decent monitor, so perhaps it's just the catalog software that's running?

Now, the hardest part, choosing which OGR sponsor to pre-order from! I've used several so far, all have been good and even awesome. Maybe divide them up between several?

.

Thanks Phil, I was trying to look at it via my Ipad.....it does clear up a bit when I zoom in but the writing or description is still blurry while the other catalogs are fine... I will try the laptop later......but you are right so much to choose from.

I will be getting a GG1 for sure since I also donot have one....the SP looks great too but I have the Legacy one already......and just to get whistle smoke on the new one I cannot justify the expense.  Its like Christmas all over again thumbing through these catalogs.....Lionel did a great job!

Nuthin. Good to see the LionMaster N&W A back, but I've already got one. The Lionel 1234 A is so good, it is the only non-scale command control steamer that I kept on the roster. It sounds and runs better than my scale 1218.

If there were a scale S1a, Z1b, N&W 2 Bay Hoppers, or N&W Caboose I'd be up for it. Looks like my 2016 $$$ will be headed into an 84 El Camino!

Have done a brief -- very brief -- look and it's obvious Lionel has hit a home run with the 2016 offerings.

For me, glad to see the new line-up in the popular and growing Lion Chief Plus category. The B&O switcher is calling my name and possibly one of the GP-38s, although none of the road names on those are appealing to me.  I already have a LC+ Pacific but the Western Maryland livery may end up in the "buy" column. I have the LC+ universal remote on pre-order from last year so that's coming, too.

I haven't even scratched the surface yet on the RTR catalog but based on comments above sounds like there's plenty to be happy about.

Good job, Lionel.

As of now, I'm going to be in for the G Gauge Disney Christmas set (I get as many Disney trains as I can, so that's a natural!), a couple of those beautiful T-Shirts and maybe the PRR diesel switcher Lionel Junction set (it looks like it would be a lot of fun to have for a quick runner here and there when I just want to have some fun with the trains).

I do love that B&O 0-4-0, as well...
