David,

The difference between $1350 and $900 is $450 not $1000 and $500 is still a lot of money. Whistle steam, Legacy control and sound are worth the difference to me. If I were a Southern Pacific, Reading or even a GG1 fan I would definitely be figuring out a way to pay for it. Also I would only plan on buying one major item. Last year I purchased the PRR B6 switcher for less than $600, no whistle but what a great engine.  Yes everyone has a budget and you hate to see prices going up but for the life of me I can not see GGD or Atlas as low cost alternatives. Buy the way if Lionel would have made a PRR T1 I with whistle steam I would be making financial plans as I would be in. For this.great catalog I will probably go with the PRR PS1 boxcar.

The Allegheny he mentioned is being sold for around $1800.

I just wonder how many more post we'll have to suffer through about costs of the items in the catalog? I'm sure folks are now convinced that the catalog has things in it that cost money.

Sorry, Marty.   That was Ralph Nader who signed on with my OGR account again.  I'll have to change my PW and forget to tell him the new one.

Hi! I'm getting GG1 4935 and all the Pennsy passenger cars.  Also Wabash 0-8-0 steamer and Wabash box car -- and an Allegheny.  Had to think about the last one because I have the JLC, but I think it will sell out and then be hard to find.  Missed the Challenger and Milwaukee 261/267.  Still searching for those.

Anybody getting the Penn Central 4 pack and 2-pack of the 21" passenger cars?  Thoughts on the cars in this group?

Thanks!

That was on my VERY short list of things I did pre-order from the Signature Catalog to go along with the Lionel PC Blackjack GG-1 (JLC Version) that I acquired in 2015.  I liked the fact that the cars in this set DON'T match, because that screams PC to me.   From the images in the catalog, it also seems like there's a mix of ribbed and smooth-sided cars in this set.  Anybody else notice that too?

I was really impressed with the recent Texas Special cars, so I thought why not give these a shot as well.

Since I do not own a JLC...

The VL GG-1 with spark effect, dual speakers, Legacy speed control, Legacy sounds, sensor track compatibility, pantagraphs that will give, and 2 year warranty above the JLC GG-1 along with the features that the JLC already has in the way of steam effect.

And to compliment my VL Big Boy and previous sound cars...

There are some other items I'll pick up later that are not BTO such as the sensor car and PE box cars.

Passed on the big ticket items myself. The GG1s are nice, but I don't model the Pennsylvania, and I would feel compelled to put up catenary wires around the layout for realism. So I passed. I really like the Allegheny. Thought long and hard about buying the Virginian version. But in the end it was just too much money for me to buy at this time. Too many other train purchases to make. I am in the process of building a more permanent layout and need to buy lots of track and scenery material over the next year. So I have to limit my other purchases.

I did order a few smaller ticket items though:

Bangor and Aroostook Sound Car

Boston & Maine and New York Central Milk Cars

Boston & Maine PS-1 Boxcar

and

Smithsonian Boxcar Set

Looks like almost everyone is cutting back significantly. Can't say I blame them. I'll be getting only one of the new lower priced PS-1 boxcars with sounds, since those sound cool and are low priced.

With all the heavy prices on the high end locomotives, especially the steam engines, I can bet very less of them will be made than the 2015 locos.

We won't get the real story from the dealers here, 'cause they're gonna tell us, "Heck yeah... this-and-that are hot, top-sellers... and some fella just purchased three GS-4's this morning... blah... blah... blah...".  All in an effort to give us the warm-and-fuzzy feeling, encouraging us all to "Jump on in... the water is fine!".

The real question will be how many "extra" BTO locomotives dealers will order this year beyond their true, confirmed customer orders.  Even for the 2015 product year, I noticed a few times when I could have purchased a BTO locomotive today (on sale) for LESS THAN the pre-order prices last year.  That oughta be sending a message to folks that there's no harm in negotiating behind-the-scenes for those big-ticket items if they really want to pre-order.    Just remember to keep it win-win.

I ordered the Bethlehem Steel hot metal and slag cars, the GS4 with the small print, the BAR PS1 with sound, and old rivets GG1.  I am considering a second GG1, but am hoping to fight off that urge.  Also considered the Allegheny, I do think it is a beautiful engine.  But I think it's too big to be practical for me.
