Are there any known problems with this accessory? This is on our club layout which is only operational each year for the month of December. The layout is operational about 8 hours each weekend; and sporadic operations during the month. The accessory has been on the layout for two years before the current year. After operating a few days it stopped operating and is warm to the touch. It was disconnected. Any help or insights would be appreciated.

I've repaired one of the park accessories so far. These are simple devices. There is a small pancake dc motor, plastic gear box, and a circuit board to convert the AC to DC. When I repaired the swing set, it had the same symptom. No movement and got warm. I found the voltage regulator died. I ordered a new one from digikey and replaced it. I think the new regulator was around $1. The circuit boards are very basic and the regulator is the only real failure point. You will need to open it up to confirm what is wrong.

Thanks for the insights Joe. The burnt smell was overwhelming when we opened it up. We wouldn’t know a voltage regulator if we tripped over it. One of the members found a brand new one at a great price. I think we’re going with that.
