Hi all, can anyone recommend what loca would look/work good pulling a few 29 day coaches? It can be vintage/modern/reproduction. I have heard Lionel number 5 but they seem to not have enough pulling powr for 29 coaches which feel heavy to me.

Frank, a nice looking set one from about 1915 that used a black 42 and two of the 29's. Of course the 42 was single motored until a few years later.
Lionel 5 , 42 , 6 will have no problem pulling a pair of day coaches ... here is a 6 pulling a pair of 1910 Pullmans .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2r-56omlys
Day Coaches are out there ...seek and you shall find .....Ebay , auctions , York no shortage of post 1913 Day Coaches in the World ....... now 1912 and before ...they are a bit thin on the ground here are a pair of trolley bodied day coaches ..1907-9 ... these are hard to find in any condition
single Day coach ..1912 ...note Maroon strip ..pin hole steps cut out bolsters ... rather difficult top find ..
1911 same car with red primer under green ...bit more difficult to find
