Hi everyone,

I recently got a Lionel #51 steam locomotive and tender that have been spray painted black. It is missing the headlight and front boiler ornament, both of which I have located replacements for. I was wondering what the best method is for stripping the paint is, and if anyone knows where to get paint to match the gray color of the boiler and red window frames.

Thanks,

Kal in the past I have successfully used TSP (tri sodium phosphate) powder, purchased from any big box or hardware store, mixed in a pail of hot water to remove prewar paint. After a 30 minute soak the paint usually falls off. Not sure about the black overspray what kind of paint you are dealing with. Have you looked at Hennings Trains collector color series of paint? Would be great to see a couple of pictures of your project. Hopefully this helps.
