Around 8-10 years ago I picked up a Lionel 6-18009 New York Central Mohawk 4-8-2. It is a great engine however there was damage to the cowcatcher. I went to Lionel's parts site and they do no sell a replacement. Does anyone know if any other model cowcatcher might be able to fit with some "adjustments?" Attached are a few pictures of the damaged one.

Two schools of thought for a repair, ….you can check the usual suspects parts vendors, ( Bill at S&W parts supply & Jeff at the Train Tender ) and see if they might have a whole pilot assembly they can sell you, ….if the part is made out of unobtanium, then your pilot is repairable. PSC sells a NYC pilot part that is a fantastic repair solution. In fact, some time ago, I did a write up on a NYC pilot replacement using the PSC part. If you have no luck finding a complete pilot assembly , you can send your broken pilot to me for an undetectable repair. I can machine off your broken part, and install a new one. Here’s a pic of the PSC part,…

Keep us posted on your repair progress. Love that engine.
Pat (Harmonyards) does great work, no question about it! But if you're searching for a bolt-in replacement, I believe that the same pilot was used on a later reissue of the Mohawk, 6-18064.

Ted, the pilot from the 18064 will bolt in place, however, it has large holes for the insulators at the hand rail drop ins. If the plastic insulators are not there, those holes are pretty big!…

I checked the parts sites and the pilots are not available. Pat, I looked at PSC's site and they have a Hudson/Niagara #40306 pilot. Is that what I need?
Thank you!
