I've got a Lionel SP Consolation with TMCC, item number 6-28036. I'd like to add cruise and 100 speed steps to it. It looks like it has modular TMCC boards, so an ERR Cruise M should be a drop in. I just want to make sure it is before I buy one that I don't need the whole Cruise Commander setup.

Yep, the CC-M is what you need. I've put it in several of these, no special issues that you should encounter.
Cool. Thanks for confirming!
Got the CCM yesterday and installed it today. Runs much better. It'll also get a fan driven smoke and 4 chuff/revolution upgrade at some point as well.
I did one of those with the MTH smoke unit, the Super-Chuffer and Chuff-Generator, it really makes it into a nice running piece.

I have a PS2 smoke unit and when I set it in place the fan was where the CCM sits. I'm assuming that you moved the boards from the factory mounting locations to clear the PS2 smoke unit? I was planning on using a LC+ smoke unit but if there is enough space to move the boards and mount a MTH smoke unit I'd rather do that, especially since I've got several new PS2 smoke units sitting around.
I checked my notes, I lied. The Consolidation got the LC+ smoke unit. I actually have another Lionel Consolidation that has a PS/2 upgrade, that has the MTH smoke unit, but that's because there wasn't anything in the way in the locomotive.

That makes sense. Why I was fiddling with the PS2 smoke unit it didn't look like there was room to move the boards back. I was hoping maybe you noticed something I didn't. Thanks though. I'll find a LC+ smoke unit for it.
I can see why the PS2 smoke unit would fit with the PS2 upgrade. There's no boards in the boiler then and plenty of room.
I believe that's from an Atlantic, I have two of those in my parts box, saving them for when I need something for a tight fit.
I'm hoping the LC+ one fits fine. I don't expect it to match the smoke output of my PS2 and PS3 stuff but even the LC+ fan unit is going to be miles better than the puffer.
This one is used in some Legacy Mikados. Its about the size of a Lionchief unit. Its not available as a unit but you can buy all the individual parts for about the same price.

The LC+ smoke unit is a decent performer. You'll have to change the resistor, it comes with a 16 ohm resistor. You want probably at least a 20 ohm and maybe a 22 ohm 2W resistor for TMCC use.

Pretty sure that one is too long Pete, it will hit the boards in a standard TMCC equipped Consolidation.

I've got a couple 27ohm resistors kicking around so I figured I'd use one of them.
That's a good start.
