just bought a beautiful Lionel 6-29144 Santa Fe El Capitan 18” Aluminum Passenger Car 4-pack O Gauge set........a couple of the cars have some loose passengers, have any of you folks had this problem? i am new to modern era trains and am a bit reluctant to take the bodies off without some advice from someone whos done this before.......thank you, grumps

I believe your cars are the same as my 18" SP Daylight cars. Its not hard. I had 2 cars with loose tables in them.

Remove all the very small screws holding the die cast underbody (I think 6 total) from the frame. Then remove the 2 larger screws, 1 in front and one behind each truck (4 total for 2 trucks). This will allow the metal frame and trucks to drop below the cars side skirts. Be careful as the wires from trucks will pass up into the body of car. You should be able to push the plastic interior out one end of the body with the frame / trucks hanging lower than the side skirts. I only pushed interior out as far as needed to make my glue repairs.   

 

EDIT You have to remove the end caps first (2 screws each).
