I have a Lionel 6-34668 Legacy GP9 engine which I'm running through my DCS system. The smoke unit quit working and the light in the cab of the engine is flashing 3 times, stops and keeps doing it until the power is off. Everything else works and sounds as it should. Is there anything I can do or try. If there is nothing I can do I was wondering if there is a wire I can cut from the smoke unit that will make the cab light stop flashing?

3 cab light flashes is the onboard diagnostic code for a smoke fan fan motor issue.
( On page 30 of your owners manual)
If for whatever reason the fan motor draws too many amps the smoke unit automatically shuts down, and the cab light blinks.
You could try oiling the shaft bushing of the fan motor to see if that helps, otherwise you may need to replace the fan motor.
I usually just replace the motor, if I already have it apart, a few bucks for a new motor is not an issue.

True ,but if it's a Lionel replacement motor there's a 50/50 chance the replacement will be bad lol!
As it also says on p.30 of the manual, turning the smoke unit off at the switch (shown on p.8) will diasable the diagnostic test and with it the cab light blinks. I can’t remember off the top of my head whether doing a soft reset stops the diagnostic test from counting down to zero from three attempts before shutting down the smoke unit (back to p. 30) but I think it does.
In any event this seems like a fan motor replacement is needed. If it wasn’t making a lot of noise before I’d guess that smoke fluid has fouled up the bearing.
Thanks for the help. I just shut off the smoke switch and the lights stopped flashing. I'll deal with the smoke unit later.
