I understand that Lionel made an orange set with 4-wheel trucks, a red set with either 4-wheel or 6-wheel trucks, and a blue set with only 6-wheel trucks. However, I especially love the look of the blue set and want to learn more about them. When were they made, and what engine normally pulled them? Also, what companies (if any) have reissued them?

Rich-Art-Company and Lionel/MTH both made 700 series cars 1980 and 1990s-2016
i cannot cut and paste the from the website. I recommend you read the entire contents and follow the adjoining pages.
I have see post that another company also made unauthorized copies of the 700 series in the 1970s. however i didn't record where i found that info.
The 700 series cars were packaged with Large Electric Locos and The 260E Steam. They are almost to large for the 260E. I feel any of the 600 series fits best behind the 260E

Thanks. A friend said he had a couple buried away which I will buy when he digs them out. It could be months, but I am not in a rush.
