I received an 8801 Blue Comet for Christmas. A great gift.  It appears to be missing a front screw that holds the bolier to the frame.  The Lionel diagram calls for three screws, but looking over the unit it only looks like one in the center is needed under the front pilot wheels.  Can anyone advise what is needed?  Thanks!

Looking at the Greenberg's Lionel Modern Era book, it looks like the screw could be Part # 8600-47 (steamchest mounting screw).  I would call The Train Tender at 585 229-2050 and ask if that's it. They have this screw listed on their web site. They list it as 6-32x3/8  slotted fillister hd. They may have the book I mentioned and can go over it with you to see if that's what you need.

Erie, not Eerie

There is one screw in the front.  The ash pan and rear truck are removed with two screws, but this loco, being derived from the 2046/2056, has one screw down into the chassis from the top of the boiler(picture 2), so only two screws holding the boiler onto the steam chest and running gear.

The ash pan screws are supposed to be black, it appears they have been replaced on your Blue Comet.

1/2/12 Edit reflects 2046/2056 reference as per Frisco Chris below.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for your help.  I was able to find and screw.  It is as good as new.  The only thing now is the sound system.  She sounds like a jet taking off from the sounds of steam system.  What would you suggest to improve the sound system?  I guess it would be placed in the tender as well.

Thanks for your help.

Jim
