When you get your new Acela I suggest you open the top cover, hold it upside down and shake it a bit. Here's what happened to me:
So I just got my new Acela set, and right of the box both locomotive units were shorting out internally. Like if you put the locomotive on the track it just trips the breaker. Like here in this video of the first unboxing:
So the 2021 lead unit had smoke coming out (and no it does not have a smoke unit) and has the burny electronic smell. The 2024 unit also just tripped the breaker like you saw there. So anyways, with the 2024 unit, I turned them upside down with the cover off and gave it a good shake and this piece of conductive metal debris fell out. The 2024 train runs completely and totally fine now.
The 2021 unit also had some shards of whatever this is fall out ...but the train is still toast. I guess it shorted somewhere sensitive on the board and did damage. I will be returning that one for another.
Anyways good to know.
