Is it me, or have any of you also had issues with the metal knuckle couplers Lionel installed on the PA's, PB's, and streamlined passenger cars in this set?  With nearly every truck carrying current for either motors in terms of the powered PA 8114, or sound in the one PB, and lights in everything else, the metal couplers create sparks and sometimes erratic running with nearly anything they come in contact with.  I changed them out for plastic KC's on my set years ago and now a friend of mine is getting around to finally using his NP set and annoyed by the same thing.  Just wondering if others have had a similar experience.  I searched, but didn't find anything posted previously.  Thanks.

My WP California Zephyr did the same thing when I was running it at a train show years ago.  Drove me nuts until I figured out what causing the problem.  Pulled it and put on another train.  Obviously 3-rail thinking in a 2-rail world.  Planned on installing plastic couplers, never did.

My UP, C&O and Silver Flash sets are fine.  Never really ran my MP set because the locomotive sounds like a coffee grinder and my repair guy couldn't guarantee that Lionel could supply him with any better parts.
