Would anyone know a Lionel Licensed Tech who operate their own business or works at a LHS's ? I bought this S-Gauge NORFOLK SOUTHERN SD 70 Road # 1011 Product # 48170 on 4-18-13. The annoying cab light blinks 6 times once underway and prone to stalling and/or having the sounds drop out while running. Sometimes I give it more power and the sound will come back with the annoying cab light blinking again! I called Lionel sometime ago about the 6 blinking cab light. They said they never heard of the cab light code blinking 6 times.

I run another S-Gauge PENN CENTRAL SD 70 Road # 1073 Product # 42529 that I bought on 10-17-13. This one runs great, NO BLINKING CAB LIGHTS! No stalling and no sound drops!

Thanks, Ernie

From Jon at Electric Railroad Company (the guys that do Lionel's electronic development) on 1/5/15 in this thread:  https://ogrforum.com/t...e-6-cab-light-blinks

"The 6 blinks means the hall effect pulses are missing from the wheels.  Since your loco is working well on the "surface", as internally it is not, the problem is a motor stall or bad hall sensor.  One truck could be stalling because the load is too great for the loco to be pulling.  You may have to move faster, or consist 2 locos."

The sensor is mounted on the rear truck and there is a circular magnet on the axle below it.  Why the 6 Blinks of Death aren't in the manual is anybody's guess.

If the service dept. say they have never heard of or dealt with the " 6 blinks " it can only mean they have all new people there since Mike Regan left . I had the same issue last year with the same engine. Ended up with 2 new drive units , maybe small pieces of metal shavings in between the insulated truck " halves " ?  It's bad for us the customer  if they have all new people !!!

Because it is a design/production flaw that was discovered after the products were released maybe?

Lionel's been offering the Legacy control system for some time now, I find it hard to believe that none of the O gaugers haven't run across the 6 blinks during that time.

Plus, when working on the DCC development, one of the test units had the 6 blinks and the boys at ERR knew exactly what it was.
