in one of my stories called Back to the future part 4 my older self in the year 2035 is seen running my model trains but instead of running them with a legacy remote i have electrodes in the form of a headset on my head and are running them with my mind

do you think we will have stuff like that in the 2030s from lionel or MTH

"You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy."

and the train i got my focus on in that scene is a vision line Tier 6 SD70ACe

Page; you may be closer to the truth than we can imagine.  Looking back 20 years ago, we never could have guessed one could control a whole layout with lots of trains with a little flat thing with no physical buttons, levers, or knobs.  Keep your imagination working, and maybe you will have a part in seeing it come true!!

Possibilities....On-board battery power dominant.  Third rail obsolete.  Theater surround-sound.   Wireless uncoupling....any car/engine...anywhere.  First Person View (FPV) cab camera control option (anyone else seen this feature on drones demonstrated??  Incredible!!).  BTO 3d printing commonplace.

And, as King Mongkut of Siam once famously pronounced....."Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!"

I'm onboard with this!  Add in some Virtual reality gesture control from the cab view so you could gesture just like operating a real locomotive while you watch your model correspond.  Think Minority Report.  I would also like to see more module customization in the software for sounds.  For example, you could recorded your own sound track for a particular locomotive or bell or whistle, and then upload it into the locomotive's command control and have it be the default sound.  Think of the possibilities for replacing the default station sounds or freight yard sounds or even startup or shutdown extended sequences.

I'd love custom sounds, but making a sound be realistic for other than simple bell and single tone whistle will be difficult.  Think of the prime mover sound for a diesel or the various labor sounds for steamers.  That isn't going to be easy for someone to record and slap into a sound card.  Maybe when we can synthesize more accurate sounds it would be easier...

i'm on board with these especialy the 3d printing thing and maybe take it a step further

build a train on  an app and transfer it as a hologram to your layout

no more running out of room to store trains on shelves or in boxes when not in use

and maybe more cheaper and attractive to young folk like myself
