I'm lucky in that I have no interest in the J. The Mohawk on the other hand.... maybe I can find the older one on the cheap?

This is a decent price on one of the previous 2005(korean made FWIW) offerings of TMCC RS 5.0 "4 chuff" mohawks. This was a "take out" from the empire builder set. I'm not sure if its still available, this was up on the  for sale forum for some time.https://ogrforum.com/d...ent/6216614252395618 Heres a pic of my mohawk which was the "seperate sale" mohawk from 2005. Substantially greater detail than any of my legacy steamers. If Lionel sticks with all of the original detail , these should be a hit.

I sell you mine for 550 in perfect shape with box no shipper though ...

Not a bad deal sir! I will keep you in mind after York!

Very, very excited about the Cab & Base 1L.  I don't have a Legacy yet, just TMCC, so this is a very welcome introduction; it'll be more like the remote I'm used to than a Legacy.

Wouldn't the Lionel L-3 Mohawk from many years ago be nice upgraded with a DC motor,

more details, Legacy, and so on, be nice? More work to get it up to todays expected

standards, and MTH has done the L-3, but, still...a thought.

The L-2 is certainly stunning, though - I have the TMCC version.

FWIW, an H-10 NYC Mike would definitely open my wallet.

Yes a Daylight, and for that matter three other GS class locos.

Now that sure is interesting. Wonder if Lionel will have the correct running gear under ANY potential GS-4/GS-5 models. Plus, will they offer a "skirt less" black, early/mid 1950s version with all the detail under where the skirts were?

Well that's a relief!!!  Should lessen the temptation level.

Based on early indications from posts above, it would seem this may be quite THE catalog of Legacy "re-issues" for locos that were produced in the early 2000's.  I didn't buy all that much in the latter part of the decade, but I do recall purchasing the J (#606), Daylight GS-2, and Western Pacific GS-64 when they all hit around the same time.  So this is a bit like deja vu all over again... just with the Legacy upgrades this time around.

If you remember that you'll also recall both the WB-GS 64 & the SP GS2 were beautiful engines that didn't sell well at all.   Both were eventually blown out cheap.

I recall paying $675 out the door for the SP. A super deal on a great looking engine. Also, don't recall the year or MSRP of the #611 but I do remember paying $825 at my LHS.

Yes... both those engines were "sleepers" as they say, and they not only look great -- they sound terrific as well with RS 5.0, and I purchased them together for a fabulous deal.  I in no way feel compelled to replace them with the newly catalog'd versions just to pay premium dollar for perhaps a whistle-steam effect or whatever new incremental feature(s) they're gonna have, along with slightly better sounds.

But for those folks in the market for these types of locomotives now, I'm sure they'll be quite pleased with the new Lionel offerings.

That's because too many folks trip all over themselves to have the latest and greatest, despite the fact they're likely to pay top dollar when these items first hit the street -- not to mention the bargain pricing at which they're likely gonna sell the "N-1" generation locomotives.  Not exactly win-win, but at least this is a hobby where N-1 items are still worth SOMETHING toward the purchase of new items that may be on one's wish list.

Norfolk Southern heritage diesels retail for $550.  And while I admit to scanning the catalog VERY quickly, it appeared they're being offered in a choice of two powered units and one dummy unit!!!

I can also confirm that I walked away with the impression that the J, GS2 Daylight and GS64 Western Pacific do NOT have whistle steam effects or steam-chest effects listed in the catalog descriptions.  Not a compelling reason to upgrade or pre-order IMHO unless the catalog descriptions are wrong.

If anyone knows otherwise, please let us know.
