Would this be Product Number 6-18268 which was released in 2000?
Yes, Purchased from Charles RO April 2002 , train sat on display shelf until yesterday when I added some grease and oil to wheels and gears , train ran for a while around a small loop lights, sound and seemed to work ok I added plenty of smoke fluid to the engine and switched smoke switch to on but no smoke , train derailed and then had bad burning smell , opened it up and found middle PCB with burnt components. Engine shows short on transformer light now and will not run , however I was able to get it to run forward and reverse with legacy remote but ran slow and still no sound and lighting.

yes, the engine catalog number is 6-18268 , SD 90 Centennial with Odyssey and Rail Sounds. I was able to order P/N 691-PCB1-0B1 ( the board that has burnt components) from Lionel
I gave up , the PCB that I ordered from Lionel was the incorrect one , I should have ordered the power supply but instead I ordered the motherboard by mistake . Not sure if it's going to be able to be repairable.
I know what must of happen, you put too much smoke fluid down the stack. We all have done this in any smoking engine. The fluid over flow on to the boards. Informatively you power the engine up and it shorted one of the boards. It may be all or just one board.
You stated that the transform light stated that you had a short, that would do it. If you spray electrical cleaner on all 4 board and let dry. If you have the correct mother board 691PCB11E MOTHERBOARD DIESEL W/ODYSSEY, turn off smoke unit, I would put the 3 boards on to the mother board. Get ready to turn on the train and watch to see if it will take the current or not. If you see smoke turn off. I believe the power board; sound board and command board may be ok.
The board that may give you the most problem could be the power board-691PCB104D RAILSOUNDS POWER SUPPLY (ALT:691RSPRA00). I looked up the Lionel parts for your engine shows that Lionel doesn’t sell this board as well as the soundboard.
I would check the wire to and from the mother board to see that they didn’t short out.
I believe the safeties way is to but new power board and new command board-691R2LCC08 R2LC / R4LC / RADIO RECEIVER (C08 CODE). Put them on the new motherboard. This is a great engine; I have 6-18268 Lionel Centennial TMCC SD90MAX Diesel #2000 plus other names of that year and they are worth the price for the engine.
The power supply board you can buy for someone on the internet. Type in the number and see who has the board.
Look on the other side if you have some boards that may be good this is plus for the age of the engine.
I hope this helps. The under web is the listing for your engine.

the smoke unit is not near the three electronic boards , but you are correct about the power supply board , it is fried, it is burnt and IC has hole burnt in the center of it , I took it to the hobby shop for repair. but it may be too expensive to fix
The Railsounds power supply is readily available, and will almost certainly be cheaper to buy than to try to repair one that is fried.

I hope that is the only problem they find, toe power board is too badly damaged to repair but the engine's first problem was no smoke but now no smoke, lights or sound and barely runs on legacy and I think it didn't run at all in conventional. I am not having any luck with Lionel products that were never used the SD90MAC, The conventional Classics Santa FE F3 don't run and my GS2 Daylight MPC won't smoke all in for repair and since Lionel may not have parts they may not be repairable and to put the icing on the cake the re issue Burro Crane doesn't run although motor runs and cab rotates . All of these items were never run and were purchased from Charles RO except the Santa FE F3 that was purchased from a train show but it was sold as new and was sealed. Thanks for your advice , it does help.
