It goes live this weekend on Lionel's site but we have an advance copy here in the store. Lionel dosn't like us posting the pictures before the web site goes live but you are welcome to come in and check it out. Highlights include New Thomas items, Peanuts Christmas Set, PE Freight set, Made in America President cars, also Made in America Peanuts cars. Tons more, have to go back to work!

Thanks for the heads-up! Any scale PE or Polar RR items in it?
Andy
Yes PE Scale passenger cars (2) and a scale K-4
K-4 is acutal old, but I forgot the Polar Railway SD-80
I have the Polar K4 from last year with the smoking whistle, I love it. I wonder how the PE Freight will look behind the K4? I may go for the PE Freight.
Any operating accessories?
Charlie are you going to post all the items in the catalog like you normally do?

Music to my ears... But not necessarily for my wallet. I was hoping to see some additions to the PE scale passenger series, but they haven't been the most reasonably priced heavyweights for whatever the reason. And if one of them is a Stationsounds diner, I'll likely grab one, despite what i'm expecting to be a hefty pricetag. But since I picked up the current line-up of five cars for a great deal at the Allentown show last year, I guess I can dig in for the newer stuff if I really need to.
Will be interesting to see what else is catalog'd. But thankfully, I was only looking for the PE scale stuff.
David
Quite a few trackside accessories, dont recall seeing any operating ones though.
Ed I'm surprised at you, yes there are many operating assy.s
Christmas animated Billboard
Christmas Hobo Hotel
Christmas Gift Terminal
Gingerbreadman Gateman
Deluxe Christmas house with lights
Plus a number of lighted themed buildings!
Regarding the Scale PE items I have been told:
Redoing the Baggage car and doing a new Diner, $209.99 and Combine, $199.99.
No Sound in the diner.
Charlie - Just had a very quick peak today, mostly checking out the sets and rolling stock.
Is there a n&w j?
The coundown clock is now on Lionel's website.

Ditto...
Won't stop me from getting it, but I would certainly have paid more for sounds...

The cover artwork looks like an Angela Trotta Thomas painting.
I have been to the Lionel website and do not see the count down clock for the Christmas catalog. What am I do wrong?
Clear your cache'. There are 2 numbers on the main area, #1 is the countdown clock.
Appears as if the Christmas catalog has made its way out to some of the train stores today. Stopped by one of my favorite LHS's this evening and picked up a copy.
The catalog is 36 pages, but only 1 pagespread will be of interest to the hi-rail, scale enthusiasts. And even at that, some of the items are re-catalog'd from prior announcements (i.e., the Polar RR K-4 locomotive, and the scale PE baggage car). As mentioned earlier, the new scale PE passenger cars include a combine and diner, albeit with no StationSounds. I guess Lionel must be paying hefty royalty fees to the Polar Express bigwigs; that's the only reason that I can think of that would explain the relatively high price-tag on these pieces (i.e., compared to other scale heavyweight passenger cars). That or possibly a very small production run. Who knows...
All of the other Polar RR items that are newly announced in this catalog are done up in traditional Christmas color scheme of green/red/white rather than the blue/burgandy/gold paint scheme from prior years. Featured in the Christmas colors are an SD80MAC, a PS2 covered hopper, a rounded-roof boxcar, and 0-4-0 switcher and a TMCC trackmobile.
The rest of the catalog contains more traditional-sized Lionel items, including a splattering of boxcars made in the USA -- including some of this year's Christmas boxcars if I read things correctly on my first pass through the catalog.
Overall... a very comprehensive Christmas Catalog that will appeal to a very broad audience. Nicely done.
David
P.S. BTW, no "J" or anything of that caliber was announced... and I'm not too surprised about that. I think we'll see that level of product announced in 2012 Volume 2 for delivery in 2013. Meanwhile, the J is still prominently featured -- purportedly as a sneak preview -- on Lionel's Facebook page.
Got a better look at the catalog yesterday also, one item that looks sharp is this years Kinkade boxcar, as there is a steam passenger train mural on the left and right sides of the boxcar, sort of has a Polar Express look to it.
The cover artwork is featured on this years Angela Trotta Thomas boxcar. There is also an Angela Trotta Thomas gallery building.
The artwork by both artists is top-notch. The boxcar you're referring to appears to be 6464 size and is one of the "made in USA" boxcars. The artwork for that car is also planned to be available as a Kinkade painting, which the catalog indicates will be available at Kinkade galleries this Fall. Should be worth checking availability of various print sizes. The painting, entitled "All Aboard for Christmas" has several Lionel references in it, so it's a natural for train room decor.

Still can't view the Christmas catalog countdown clock. I go to google enter lionel.com and all that comes up is the signature 2012 and the RTR catalogs. What is going on?

The problem has to be at your end. Clear your browser cache'.
David,
The PE Freight set is done in Christmas colors? I would have hoped to match the colors blue/burgandy/gold for my polar k4.
Try this for the website:
If you do not the "s" in the http address, you will not get the one with the Christmas catalog.

My comments regarding the green/red/white scheme were strictly related to the newly announced scale Polar Railroad items in the one page-spread for hi-rail, scale enthusiasts. Sorry for any confusion. Although there are lots of other green/red/white items throughout the catalog too. The PE Freight set to which you're referring will match the former blue/burgandy/gold color scheme; however, the PE Freight set is a stand-alone RTR set with its own 0-8-0 steam loco, gondola with trees/presents, boxcar and caboose along with track and transformer. There's also a wood-sided reefer that I believe to be re-catalog'd from last year (in the same color scheme).
Hope that helps.
David

Thank you very much that was the missing link or should I say "s" Thank again.
Got the catalog today - nice amount of Polar Express, holiday and holiday-related stuff but nothing earth-shattering, with the exception of the USA-made box cars.
Trainworld has the listings online already

Thanks Ed!
I just looked at Trainworld's list. I know I'll be interested in the 17752 Polar Railroad Round Roof Boxcar as well as the 27496 Polar Railroad PS-2 covered hopper...I am a PS-2 addict. I'm interested in seeing the photos of the Santa's Repair Work House.
It's nice to see that Lionel has returned to offering some Scale Polar Express passenger cars. I'm glad to see the dining car listed. Combine cars are neat but I don't need that for my set...it will add interest to the consist though. I never purchased the baggage car either.
Look...this one actually reads MERRY CHRISTMAS...
Thanks for the pics Keith!
I will go for these:
You're welcome, Chris!
I will go for these:
Charlie, they will look great. I hope Lionel will be placing the children in pajamas figures inside.
