Two of the interior bulbs have burned out.
Does anyone know the part number and where I may purchase them?

Post a pic of the bad bulbs, that would help.
Per the Lionel website, bulb # is not given but recommends sending it to Lionel.
I'll try to take it apart and then get a photo of the bulbs.

Ok, they are miniature screw base, now the final question is are they 6 volt or 14 volt? Measure the voltage at the socket.

I measured at the two points on the base of the bulb, where the wires are soldered.
The voltage varies depending on how I adjust the transformer handle.
How do I measure to determine the value of the bulb?
Ok, that tells me everything. You would need the 14-16 voltage bulb. If you need a P/N number let me know.

Would the group recommend taking this opportunity to install LEDs instead of the incandescents?
If you do not want to use Lionel, they are #373 bulbs available from a variety of the usual sources.
Since it is hard to disassemble, LEDs could be installed. Direct "drop in" replacements are available, but not common. Look for E5 (E5.5) base and 12-14V.
