I'm thinking about buying one of these CC Sawmills. Although, I found a video of it and he said that many (or all) of them are broken out of the box. It really sucks. Has Lionel maybe fixed the issues from then and it'll work correctly out of the box. Also, if I got one for a dealer (Nicholas Smith trains) Could I ask them to check it out to make sure it works before I buy it?

These sawmills were all made from the same production run so it's likely you may have the same issue .
There's no harm in asking Nicholas smith to test it.
Having said that. Sean( he's also a forum member ) does a nice job of explaining the problems and solutions. It appears that it's nothing a few minutes of tweaking with needle nose pliers won't fix.
The sound is great. If I wanted one I would get it and refer back to Seans video to get it operating correctly

Cool. I'll ask them I mean, what's the worst they could say, No? I'll definitely refer back to Sean's video if need be.
As I understand, besides the improved sound effects, the new Saw Mills do not have the vibrating drive mechanism, and are supposed to run more smoothly. I have an old one, which I worked on to reliably feed the logs and cut lumber, and it has been working without any problems for over three years. Most people believe that the sound the vibrating mechanism makes resembles what they think how a saw mill sounds.
I added automatic detection of the dump car, of the logs dumped, and of the 'sawing' operation so the saw mill starts and stops automatically. I have run it dozens of times for the hundreds of people who have visited my layout, and the Saw Mill is one of the most popular items. Believe it or not, about half the people ask if the logs are actually being cut as they watch. (No, I am not kidding.)
This video shows the Saw Mill in operation starting at 5:30, but the whole video is nice to watch.

Alex - that was outstanding . I enjoyed that video very much. I had the old sawmill without sounds and the big two sided log loader on my layout. I ran it with an original IC Controls AMC3000. That was fun. Same concept, but your execution is, well, outstanding. I had a logging themed railroad and most likely will again. Like the Shay. Great all around. Thanks.
That was really Cool to watch..
Loved the sounds on the Shay..
Great video! Quite the cool setup.
I just picked up an old 464 sawmill for my postwar layout and it is really a simple but clever design. Love watching those planks slide out.

Nicholas Smith will absolutely let you test it. Fantastic people there. Ask for Joey or Dave. I test almost all my stuff there before I take it home. However most likely will need the tweaks or you can send back to Lionel to repair. Once it is fixed it is a great accessory. The sounds now are very cool.

Cool! Thanks, Sean!
