Lionel custom holiday boxcar

I agree, a personalized boxcar is great. I already have enough Christmas engines.

The say in the ad that the price is $50.00 which is lower than the list on the 2013 Christmas boxcar and I would buy one in a minute!,But I don't want or need to buy the train set to get one. 

I'm sure a bunch of new folks will get these sets with their kids/grandkids' names on them for the keepsake value.

 

Pretty neat marketing idea if you ask me. Nice to see something new.

I would also buy the box car alone.

I contacted them and they apologized for the misunderstanding of $50 Value if purchased and free if you buy the set.

I figured I was buying two-three LionChief Sets for the holidays it would be great to get the cars for the kids too!

 

But no.....

 

I think they missed out on a great opportunity for Christmas, buy any set, or engine of a certain price and get the personalized car!

 

Oh well....

Yes, it could be a big seller if it was offered separately, but Lionel's not trying to create a new "hot" boxcar for individual sale.

 

They are trying to move a full set for whatever reason (It's a nice Christmas set, but maybe they made way too many a few years ago when it first came out).

 

I'll go out on a limb and predict that if these are made at all, the "blanks" of this car will end up at Warehouse sales (such as the one that's tomorrow in NC!) or train shows similar to how the "blank" Lionel Learning Center cars showed up after the closure of the facility in MI.

 

So on a different note, do they guarantee delivery for this Christmas if you order?
