Who makes the lucite display cases for the century club engines, and other Lionel engines?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
A TCA member by the name of David Kris makes custom made display cases for Hudsons as well as for other engines. He attends York. I purchased a display case from him in April for my post-war 773 and I am quite pleased with it. It is very well made and I thought the price was quite reasonable. Of course, if you buy one now you will have to pay shipping. Amazingly, I can't remember which hall he was in other than the fact that he was not in one of the dealer halls or the silver or blue halls. Anyway, you can access the TCA data base to obtain his location and number. Hope this helps.
Can anyone help me with this Question?

You are welcome.
I think what Eddie was asking was, what company made the cases supplied with the Lionel products mentioned?
OKHIKER, Sorry, Thankyou for trying to help me. I'm pretty sure that the cases you are talking about are the glass ones that are sold in the red hall as you come in on the left. I am looking for the lucite ones with the heavy oak bases.

You are welcome Eddie, I appreciate the response. You are correct, the display cases David Kris sells are glass but they do come in a heavy oak base. Also, you are correct about his location. He was in the red hall and he was on the left as you entered.
Just as an aside I also have a lucite display case that came with LTI's 1990 Scale Hudson. To tell you the truth I like the glass case better.
Paging Todd Wagner...... he would most likely know. He was at Lionel for all of CCI and probably most (if not all) of CCII.

Glass cases by Dave are much better & don't scratch & are much stronger also. I one time ask Dave if I could stack them & to prove a point he put one on the floor & stood on it with all his weight. Great cases & come with or without a mirror. I have about 30 or so of them & have a buddy who has about 45 of them & we love them. The bases are solid oak.
Could someone who has one of Dave's cases post a quick pic? Thx!!
The Century Club cases were made in USA...real mahogany (except for CCII). I too would like to know who made them. I am guessing its a now defunct company called Hotchkiss. I think they were in the Michigan area.
The 2000 Gold Hudson had a similar case.
Lionelstore.com has three display bases listed 9-41018, 9-41019 and 9-41020.
Look a little different than the Century Club versions.

Here are three poor photos of Dave's Glass Display case. Sorry, but I have not removed the production stickers yet. This case is a bit heavier and more durable than the lucite case I have for my Lionel 1990 scale Hudson. As I posted previously I like this one better.

Thanks! It really looks nice!
On the Century Club Niagara display case box, on the Lionel label it reads "Marathon Promotions LLC". Quick google search doesn't find any type of items for such a company.
OKHiker, did you add the raised track segment in your case? I bought a case from Dave's at York, but it just had the base the glass fit over (with the glass of course..).
Or was that an extra-cost option I didn't see?
Thanks for clarifying...

Carl,
Sorry I have taken so long to respond but I have been a little busy with my latest "Honey Do" list or should I say the "Do" list because the "Honey" was dropped a long time ago. In any event ,the raised section with the Gargraves track was extra. I think the cost was about 30 bucks or so. I am very happy with it because I just like the way that old 1950 Hudson sits a little higher in the case.
Initially, I didn't see the raised section either but after a little conversation Dave pulled it out from the bottom of his table. It was there in plain sight but I just didn't see it.
I called Dave, no answer. I left a message. Thanks for all your help. I guess that the lucite cases with the wooden oak bases are no longer available.
Just curious: Are the ones listed above at the Lionel Store lucite?
These are with out the raised section. I just placed the trains on the shelf . The mirror backside is nice and adds to the display I think.
If I have room I bring one home from York. If I remember the top two here are 50". I also purchased the shelf brackets from him.

I just did a quick search on eBay for "display cases for the century club engine" (click on "Include Description). Lucite cases with wooden bases are indeed still available. There are four listed on eBay now between ~$100-200. Also, TCA ED has a train meet at York PA twice a year. I've seen them for sale there as well. The next meet is in October.
Gilly, I have been to over 80 TCA meets in York. I have a lot of the lucite ones. I need to find someone that still makes them. I need special sizes made to order..
Here's a source for the display cases you are looking for....
FWIW, my initial response was based upon Lionel Century Club engines. Custom sizes are a whole different bag of worms.
Classy Woods, in Wisconsin, did a custom case for me, but they also have many others for Lionel, etc:

The bottom photo on the Classy Woods ad is the one they custom made for me. Now I'm having them do another one. Funny how that first one was immediately filled.
If I could figure out how to attach a photo here, I would...
I can't seem to connect with Dave's bases & cases. Maybe they are away for the summer.
Try: www.tracksidedisplays.com
Many of my display cases--mantle-type and wall-type--have come from them over the years in a variety of scales and sizes.
Eddie,
Ask one of the Lionel representatives at York. Also, ask your good friend Charles Ro.
The folks responsible for the Century Club cases are long gone from Lionel. Maybe @PaperTRW might know as I think he was there around that time. No one at Lionel most likely knows. The best think to do is to contact the vendors mentioned above.
DOES ANYONE HAVE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR David Kris
Dr. If you are talking about Dave's bases & cases, this is his phone # 19897921652
Thank you Eddie!
