Probably replace it (don't throw it away...nice for the parts box), but you might check the internal plug. I doubt that the problem is there, but de-bug before you re-buy - you'll have to plug in a new one, anyway.

I assume that it's causing you problems when uncoupling/disconnecting? If not, and it opens, so what?

It may just be the knuckle spring, they're replaceable, however you do have to remove the knuckle rivet and replace it with a new one.  When I have couplers that give me issues, I disassemble them, and smooth all the interior mating surfaces.  That will usually result in a smooth operating coupler that can couple up with very little pressure so you don't have to bash the locomotive into the cars to connect.
