I'm thinking of using S&W Parts Supply for restoring my post war Lionel 682 steam engine. They are located in Niskayuna New York. I would appreciate any info that you might have about them or anybody else you might recommend.
Bill has a good reputation. He has an old Lionel Service Station. When you talk about restoration, are you talking about paint and lettering? I would not have thought of Bill first, but he may also do this work.
I recommend Bill only on his reputation, which is good. I do all my own repairs so I have never used a repair shop. Jeff also has a good reputation, however, I think he is primarily in the parts business now. I think his repairs are pretty limited. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Jeff, mostly in the middle of the night. He has been a big help with lots of good advice over the years
Jeff Kane does not do repairs any more from my understanding with talking with him. He has given me a name for a repair guy in Baltimore area. He sells parts and will help you verbally over the phone on how to fix it or what it takes to fix it.
