Lionel is making AA set of Central of Georgia F3's for us here at Legacy Station. I doubt any other manufacturer will ever make these in O Scale again. Take a look at the artwork. We think they will be really nice looking units. Bluetooth and Legacy Equipped with all the features.

LEGACY Control System
Odyssey System II

Bluetooth
TrainMaster Command Control

What other F3's would you like to see?

Brian

Gulf, Mobile and Ohio - these were used on the north end of the RR (Alco FA/PA on the South); Frisco (if they had F3's - I know that they had F-units); all-red Katy; Louisville and Nashville; Southern.

Hi Brian!  I love them!  I also want a B unit!

But, as stated, the CofG never had any F3B's, so why....?

Because i am also a toy train operator, and my f3 shelf displays in ABA configuration.

Lionel made a scale Legacy GN F with silver trucks,  but they need to do the classic black truck version.

A Legacy scale Daylight F is waaay overdue. You'd think Lionel would already have this in the works, but who knows?

Breeze...  i agree!  I want black trucks too...

The SP daylight was never on the F units.  Thats an E unit in the pic.  SP had the longer F unit (cant remember designation, im old) but i still would take a daylight painted F3...

SP ran FP7s that were 4' longer than the standard F unit to accommodate a larger water tank for the boiler equipment.  You are correct that the Daylight Scheme did not end up on these.  They had the equally attractive Black Widow scheme.  (IMO).  They served long enough so that several got the Amtrak Bloody Nose Scheme.

However, oddly enough, subsidiary Cotton Belt did paint some FP7s in the Daylight Scheme.  Go figure?

3rd Rail ran FP7s back probably 6 years now?  The only F unit PRR every painted in Tuscan and only two sets at that.

As for phases on the F3, modelers have simplified it down to 4 with a Phase II early and a Phase II late (for 5 total versions). The reality is that the spec changed so many times for this transitional diesel that EMD never had any phases listed.

Most people ordering these special runs though probably aren't as interested in those details I would guess.  Lionel makes a decent F3 for the money.  Since I am biased in my affiliations, I won't comment further.

RIght, that Daylight is an E unit, and SP didn't have any Daylight Fs. Didn't research that enough!  That may hold Lionel up from making them, although a special run for a second party may have a better chance. And, as Jonathan indicates, regardless of the engine type detail, many prospective purchasers would be very happy with a set of Daylight F units.

I would like to see Lionel do Southern F3's set in Legacy.  They have not done Southern F3's since 2000 for Postwar Celebration Set.  They did separate Southern F3 B unit in 2008 with Legacy Railsounds as an add on for Postwar Celebration Set.   They could do several paint schemes for F3's the Southern Railroad.  The Green, White, Yellow Paint Scheme which I prefer...

Or this paint scheme...

Or the Tuxedo Paint Scheme...

Have often wondered why after all these years that no one has done one of the prettiest diesel paint schemes of all in O Scale as rendered here in this handsome HO set

BAR F3sDP-2016

Don't know the actual prototype colors but a slight 'pearlescent' white would be stunning!

How about it Scott/Jonathan?  Get the jump on Big L with this one.

The Postwar Celebration version wasn't accurate, of course. Lionel hasn't done an accurate paint version since MPC days, this one in 1975-77.

I'd also like to get this Rio Grande in line. Was done by Lionel in traditional series, but never scale. Silver trucks for the Zephyr. Lionel has only done black truck versions of Rio Grande Fs in scale.

Sam, pretty engines, yet without a passenger train or caboose to pull will they sell?

C.SAM - Although that is a nice looking F unit I believe it may be a different version than the F3 which Super O Bob posted, because his pic shows only 2 portholes on the side while your Atlas model shows 3.

The Atlas model is a phase I F3, the photo of the 807B is a phase II F3.

GM&O had both.

The weathering on the left-hand unit just HAS to be modeled once I have one.

Thanks for this input. I really appreciate it because this is new to us. I agree with one guy that said "what would sell". This is the bottom line. I really like these suggestions but can we sell that many?

Also rolling stock. Someone asked about cars and caboose. Both require about 200 each to meet the min. MTH will run at 75 min. but that is still a lot of cars to sell.

I'd be in for a New England road name like the Bangor & Aroostook F3 AA posted by Sam or the Maine Eastern F9 done as an AA set, which also has a great look to it (IMHO).

I'd also be ok with a dummy second unit if it could be done at a cheaper price point.

MAINE EASTERN 6

That's an FL9 (note the two axle front truck, three axle rear truck). Sunset/ GGD 3rd Rail dogs these a while back.
