I have a Lionel NYC GP-9 (6-82790) that I pulled from under my layout to run this evening. Lubed the gears and oiled the trucks - fired it up and as it ran it sounded like it derailed. Checked the trucks and made sure both were set on the rails. Ran it again and got the same sound - sounded like it was coming from the cab end of the locomotive. I didn't see any gears out of alignment and I couldn't see anything with the shell partially removed (not that brave to pull the whole thing apart).
Any clue as to what is going on? Sounds like a Gatling gun going down the rails or wheel set hitting the ties as if derailed.
