Why not add the needed length of wire in between the plug. Cut the ribbon wire and splice on the same length extension for each wire keeping the existing plug functional. You might even be able to find ribbon wire at Radio shack.

Hard to believe you can't find the connector.  Mine is packed away right now or I'd look at it.

Molex connectors can be configured with less than the maximum number of pins in the plastic. If you have an extension cable with plastic ends that fit with properly aligned and sized pins - but excess pins and wires for your purpose - it should work fine.

I've got one with extra pins on order - the crane uses 7 pins - I got one with 10. When it arrives, I'll test it out. 

Jim: encouragement from your comment. I'm confident about the spacing and pin size. Looking thru the Mouser/Digikey sites for these connectors has had me Red Eyed but I did learn about the "pins".

CapeCod: If this doesn't work, I'll go ahead and cut the end at the yellow control box and make an extension cord from there.
