Hello all,
I just purchased a new Lionel Detroit Toledo and Ironton Crane and boom car and when trying to reprogram the number I cannot get the door open that has the Run program switch behind it. Can somebody please tell me how to open a store it is really locked.
Also, on the other side I engaged the lever rearward all the way rearward for operation right?
Please advise I want to get it running.

According to the directions, it should slide to the right, that is toward the back of the cab. You might be able to use (very carefully) a small pocket knife blade to help slide the door.
I had that problem too. I ended up carefully pushing it open with out scratching it using a blade at that handle. I was afraid of breaking the handle.

Lube the track, etc.. I'd rub some dry bar soap maybe a dot of dish soap on with a stiff brush.
It is difficult to open as it doesn’t operate smoothly. On mine, I use my finger nail at the “arrow” to start then work back and forth. Has kind of a “catch” on it, I suppose to keep from opening on movement. Don’t touch the window! Some non-oily lube would be a good idea, but it isn’t open often.
I pushed it a little harder with my fingernail to the handle and it finally opened. I did buy mine from grzyboski's also. Thanks for all the replies and I can see others have had the same problem.

Make sure it is square in the opening and maybe use some soft wood, (skewer or chop stick?) to push against the lower panel indentation with light taps to get it started. And "lube" the guides as Adiratic said.
