I have done the deed and bought the Lionel Pocahontas set because I could not do without a Legacy Class J. I know it does not

have whistle steam and I was one of the biggest advocates (pain in the derriere) of not buying a loco without whistle steam, but I caved in.

What's new?

First of all, my apologies for creating this thread, once again, and asking questions that have already been answered.

I have searched for the answers, but I keep coming up empty.

1) I could not find the thread(s) on raising the cab end of the #611 to align the stripes. Can someone hit me with a link please?

2) Did Lionel produce, or plan, add on cars for this set? If so, please advise.

3) Does anyone know if the GGD Powhattan Arrow cars are already spoken for?

Thanks, once again, for helping here.

Scott Mann's latest up-date, posted on the 3RS Forum about a week ago, stated that he had completed the inspection of these N&W passenger cars, and they should be received in their California facility during January 2016. Don't know if they are all reserved, so you might contact them through their website/eMail.

Reservations are sold-out. They are taking stand-by reservations. I have already sent in my CC info. They are supposed to ship in January.

Thanks, Gilly !!

in any case, Hosanna !

I took out the J this morning and the stripes are much closer than some I have seen.

it is a close call as to whether it is worth doing the washer trick.

The sound of this locomotive is an eleven out of ten.

i read some reviews of the Lionel J and those of other manufacturers. I have watched, and listened, to the J's of other manufacturers and the difference is so great as to be no comparison in my mind. I have been trackside to hear many steamers and the Lionel sound is in a class by itself. Period.

Now, how to get whistle steam into this loco.

Rub it in big Guy! My new MTH J has the crew talk that includes such brain bending nuggets as:

"Well it's finally done, the 611 is on the road again"

"Remember there's always the over exuberant fan you've gotta watch out for"

"I hope the people following along on the highways use caution. Some of them take unnecessary risks"

As Charlie Brown would say ARRRGH!!!! Makes me want to put some Homies on the track just so the 611 will have something to run over...

Can't wait to load the next MTH sound file!

Of course, the UP Whistle warms my heart and brings a tear to my eye...

Eliot,

Congrats on the new purchase and I hope you enjoy her.

I didn't notice the stripe issue until it was pointed out of the forum.

As for add on cars - Lionel is ending their aluminum car production so you're not going to see any aluminum cars for the Pocahontas.  I can't blame them after seeing all the challenges they have had in production and the tremendous lead time needed. They may do some plastic ones down the road though.

Depending on how picky you are, The Powhatan Arrow cars from 2005 are a kind close match. There is a 2 car coach set and a Stationsounds dining car add on that was made and you can still find them if you do a little bit of searching. They are a different shade of Tuscan but I think it looks good for about 10ft away. (Remember in real life that most of the time none of the cars matched perfectly either - cars were painted at different times or whatever paint they had in the shop that day).

I have been buying the 4 car Pocahontas sets, keeping the 2 coaches and selling off the Combine and Observation. I have a 10 car matched train now but it took a lot of time and effort to make it happen.

Good luck!
