So several days ago, this Legacy K-4 (6-11319) was running on my layout with a couple of other trains, when the track power tripped. I thought that one of them had derailed and began searching where the short was occurring.  By process of elimination this engine seems to be causing the short.  I put it on the layout by itself, and turned the power on and it shorted immediately.  I Tried to inspect the underside of the loco and tender to see if anything was out of sorts and causing the short.  I could not find anything.   I let the engine set for a couple of days and tried it again. The engine started up without any problems full sound, lights, smoke, but as soon as I moved the engine it shorted the power again. I tried it conventionally too, with the same result.  I have only had this engine for about a month and this is the first time this has happened.  I have not had any issues with my track power shorting out before, unless there was a derailment or other obvious cause. Can anybody help me trouble shoot this?  Thanks!

First things first, …if you have an engine shorting and tripping your breaker, STOP TRYING TO RUN IT!! …..if you have a short, it ain’t going away, & it’s not going to magically heal itself overnight. Look very carefully at the bottom of the engine for any foreign objects that might’ve gotten hung up in the rollers, or across the chassis touching a roller, ….if unsure, post a picture as close and as clear as you can get it. Do you see any wires hanging out of the shell? …..if not, then it needs to be opened up. If you’re not comfortable doing so, you need to take it to or send it to someone who can…
