Lionel Legacy "Lash-Ups" No Lights?

I have seen this with my Legacy L-1.  I've built a "train" with other cars and a caboose all part of it.  If I address the "train" the marker lights on the tender go out.  Same thing with the caboose illumination.  Then if I address the L-1 directly, the markers come back on.  But if you address it as a train again they go out.  

The caboose is a little different, as if I address it directly and turn the lights on, they stay on.

My emails with Lionel indicate this is "expected" and since I can work around it....

Steve, this is exactly my experience. I appreciate your reply, because I just wanted to make sure this is normal and my system is working. I’m wondering why it is just certain legacy engines in lash up??? Certain combos?? Who knows. Thanks for sharing the information. I too can “live” with it.

If its one of the new sound caboose that came in a few months ago, they can be sent back to Lionel for a fix.  They fixed mine.

I sent my two sound cabooses back and they came back updated and working.
