Looking to pick up a new Lionel Legacy T1 Reading steam locomotive. For those with experience with the 2016 or newer versions, do you like the locomotive? Are there any issues I should know about? I have heard that these are very solid runners, but I have also learned that it is important to seek out the expertise of the OGR Forum before buying. Are there locomotive numbers which are newer or more desirable than others? I have seen 2100, 2102, 2104, and 2111 thus far. I would be using it to pull the six Reading Company passenger cars from 2020. I look forward to hearing what people have to share.

Love my Reading T1, just not a fan of the 5 select able whistles and bells. It is a good solid runner and the sound system is very good.
Which number do you have and from what year?
Also, what is your concern over the whistles and bells? Seems like the whistles on the T1 are pretty awesome.
Year 2021 #2100. I find that it is very easy to accidentally switch the bell or whistle you like and then have to do a round robin to get back to it. Wish they had a way to lock in the whistle / bell you like.
Understood. Thanks.
You may enjoy this T1 at out club.
Funny you sent me this video. I actually watched it last night! What club are you in?
Lone Star Hi Railers. The club in a Baggage Car.
I have 2031300 #2102. Personally I love the selectable whistles. I pull 6 of the Lionel Reading passenger cars with it and it looks/runs great. The passenger cars themselves could use some coupler improvements but that’s another story. No complaints with this engine!

Wow - you are out in Texas. Can I ask why the interest in the Reading RR? I am a Reading fan as well, but I was born and raised in Reading.

Interesting. I will have to look around to see if I can find any leftover NIB. I would want something from the years 2020 or 2021, as new as possible and never run. We'll see. Good to know that the positive comments I had heard about the T1 seem to be backed up 100% by owners.

I saw a few at Nicholassmithtrains.
I have a pair of the 2016 models, no complaints. They look great double-headed in front of forty or so boxcars.

They sure would! Do you do anything small, like a local decrepit critter or 0-4-0, milk car and caboose?
I was born and raised in Montgomery Co Pa.

Sure I do, have you never seen the Wienermobile?
How about these?

LOL, I knew you would have the entire spectrum covered!
Jim, I actually have a ton of little motorized units. I have several of the LC+ 2.0 0-6-0T switchers, two of the 44-Ton switchers, one of the 70-Ton switchers, a K-Line Porter, my little clown handcar, several RMT BEEPs, etc.
All of these have command or have been converted to command operation.
I do have some bigger stuff as well.

Fun collection. I recall your circus handcar project, that was great. I have a Beep, that would be a great conversion to command control. I'm a fan of those 0-6-0 switchers as well.

Oh OK. Gotcha. Makes sense.
A video clip from a few years ago using my (2016) Lionel Reading T1.

Bill - Awesome video! T1 looks great working hard pulling that coal. I also saw your T1 Challenge video. Are you happy with your T1? Solid runner, no issues? I ask because I am looking at buying one to pull my 6 Reading Company passenger cars.

Yes, I have been very happy with my T1. Runs & sounds great. We had sold several of them here at the store and we haven't had any problems with any of them.
