When you receive it make sure you post some photos of that bad boy.
And video!
Charlie Ro had an ETA of 7/10/2015, so it's nice to see Lionel ship something ahead of schedule. This is gonna be my "Big Boy"!!! Can't wait to see it up close. Now I'm really glad the GGD El Cap cars will likely ship next month instead of May. Helps with a little breathing room for the wallet.

Got my tracking info from Legacy Station... Monday is the day and I got a line of coal cars set-up that need to be pulled around the layout. I really hope this one includes an uncataloged feature for spinning wheels like the VL Big Boy. Something additional has got to justify the price increase from the Cab Forward to the Y6b. A glowing ash pan and dog house are close but if the Y6b has spinning wheels I would be happy. Has anyone verified the sounds of the whistle yet? Hooters put a smile on my face too.
My Y6b is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I bought this auxuliary tender from 3rd Rail by Sunset to run with it. It is gorgeous. I know that some people have reservations about trying 3rd Rail locomotives as they don't have the Legacy bells and whistles, but it seems that this tender should give you everything you need along with exquisite detail. If you are going to buy the Y6b and would like an auxiliary tender with brass detail, I would recommend one of these as a great option.

Got my tracking info from Charles Ro last week. Mine will be here tomorrow. I was surprised to see it so soon.
Wow, this sure has been an Expensive 10 Month period, The 765, VL BIG BOY, SD70 MAC,
The heavy Mikado, And others....(The E8's).....Now, The Famous, Y6B N&W, WOW! My hobby shop told me to get Ready, It's Pay Up Time!!!! All I can say is, It's a gonna Be Christmas in JUNE........Happy Railroading.....
The third rail stuff is really sweet. I was thinking of buying an aux tender from them as well. I also saw that MTH is doing a N&W aux tender for there Class A and J that are in the 2015 C2 catalog. A few years ago Lionel released a TMCC version for the Lionel Class A. I'm hoping that Lionel rereleases their N&W aux tender with Legacy in their C2 catalog otherwise I will go with MTH or if 3rd rail still has one left. Let us know how well the sunset paint matches Lionel. I've had trouble mixing and matching MTH with Lionel in the past. Which I understand the real railroads did not match either and blah blah... I don't really care as I just want my layout to look factory fresh.
I have a fun question for everyone. What Road Number did everyone get. 4014 was by far the most popular Big Boy. With there being no Y6b survivors I was really not sure which one I wanted. I eventually chose 2171 as it was the first off the line. Anyone got a better story for what road number they chose?
I went with 2195 closest to the last made 2200.
I bought 2171.
Mine is the 2195.

Is there anything a Legacy tender would so that a TMCC tender wouldn't? I assume all that could be expected would be coupler and lighting operation which should work in this case. Are there special legacy functions for an aux tender? I figured it was just supposed to look good and not much else... Will let you know on the paint. That doesn't stress me out though.

Gentlemen,
The N&W looks real nice, enjoy!

2171 for me... Arrived from Charlie Ro this afternoon. Haven't had time to open it yet, but I noticed the date-of-manufacture on the shipper indicated 3/30/2015. Pretty good time from factory manufacturing to consumer.
David
2171 but Pat told me Sept.?
Where are the pictures/video?
Feel good for you freight guys. Should be a beautiful engine.

Gee whiz, give people time to get home, have dinner and relax a bit!

Big Jim, can you tell I'm excited for these guys? HAHA

Great pics. I just photo'd mine too but I think you covered all the angles!
It is a beautiful engine. The manual does not mention wheel slip or any of the other features other than those listed in the catalog... I saw some people speculating that it might have some suprise functionality. It looks like it just has the regular bells and whistles as listed.
Ben
Hasn't been mentioned, there is no Y6b around, but there is a Y6a extant (2156); was in St Louis (I've seen it), but I understand that is has been moved back to Roanoke(?).
I'm sure many of you know this.

Anyway, what's so great about the Lionel Y6b? Looks just like my old MTH PS1 Y6b (OK, the one with the incorrect straight stack)...oh, sorry - been off my medication, I guess.
Just when I had convinced myself that the old PS1 job would "do".
Really, really nice.
The true test of any N&W articulated is going to be the quality of the Hooter whistle. The previous version in the JLC series was over the top for it's awesome hooter. On the down side was the reversed simple / compound operation, and the two chugs instead of four.
Absolutely beautiful!
I also like the sound addition.
Anyone ran it yet?
I don't have any way to run it for now, so someone else is going to have to make a video so we can hear it in action.
Ben
Nice looking model. I too will be looking forward to seeing it in a video and hearing it!!
Thanks for all the pix, Paul; looks great. Would love to have one, but I don't see any articulateds on my 5x10' 045 layout!
Thanks for the videos Winston.
Looks like another winner.
Hope you guys all enjoy your new toy!

Check out the prototypical chuff from simple to compound and the new Legacy SW that is coming. Not wheel slip but a real bonus and something to show off.
